Things that little girls should never do...

I run a secret blog, did you know? I should also mention that I run it with LA Nikki before she kills me for saying I do all the work (but I really do- KIDDING)

We get a lot of, um, letters submitted to us via e-mail for our blog. Most people understand that we just run a blog, read letters and, if we think they're appropriate, post them. However, lots of people (grown people) think we're people we are clearly not and act pretty insane. And then there are a lot of young girls (and the occasional little boy) who don't really understand the premise behind the secret blog.

I was a penpal with a 12 year old named Taylor for awhile. She was so cute. I don't even know if she ever read our blog more than once (I hope not!), but she literally wrote me every day and always ended it:
WRITE BACK ASAP! Love, Tay xoxo
So cute! I haven't written her back in awhile because I got tired of writing her every day (whoops).

Today we received another e-mail from a 12 year old girl. It was from this e-mail that I realized there are a few things little 12 year old girls should never do or say:
  • They shouldn't give anyone on the internet their home phone numbers
  • They shouldn't give anyone on the internet their home address
  • They shouldn't mention the name of their middle school and their 3 sister's names
  • They shouldn't assume we can give them a part in the movie they are writing about
  • They shouldn't prove to us how obsessed they are with the movie they think we can cast them in.
  • And they never, ever EVER should have to say:
Okay, I guess I can tell you a little bit about my life. Well, my mom passed away this year, but it was in the fall.......Okay, my mom died of cancer...
12 year olds should never ever utter those words....They should not know that pain...

They can't write a bad song...

The Civil Wars can't write a bad song, that's for sure...

Despite it being a live video and not the great sound quality of their other videos, I still think it will even make an appearance in my Fantastic Fridays loop

Happy Saturday!

Fantastic Fridays

Remember how I love to overplay Falling & Dance me to the End of Love every Friday? I don't know why it's on Fridays. I think it's because I pay attention to this blog on Fridays and remember that I haven't listened to the song(s) all week! I have a new song to add to, what I'm now calling, Fantastic Fridays (You can tweet that if you want...#fantasticfridays)
The song is, Dancing on Graves by Paper Route.

David and I finally got to see them play on Tuesday night after a 5 year hiatus (they've been to Philly lots- but we're always out of town!) and it was spectacular! Brought back good ol' memories of seeing their old band, For all the Drifters, in Nashville. Dancing on Graves was my favorite song they played on Tuesday and it sounds amazing on the album! (which comes out Tuesday!)

Enjoy the latest addition to Fantastic Fridays (and duh.. don't forget to play Falling & Dance me to the end of love over and over today!)

I wrote a little guest blog...

I had a problem with this comment thingy called disqus and googled to find some help. I came across this blog by Dave Lucas and ended up in conversation with him about our joint disqus problems. Dave asked me to guest blog about my experience, which I did. It's a snore and technical, but I tried to put some "buttons flava" into it. (I'm so ghetto, you know it) Hugs

(I didn't include the whole post.. just a lil' sampling)
I run a little blog called A blog about a girl named Buttons which isn't too big and isn't really about anything in particular. I also run a 'secret' blog where I'm anonymous (and want to stay that way, so sorry.. not spilling my 'secrets!'), and with a friend I've somehow, in a span of 4 months, built a little following of tens of thousands of readers with hundreds of thousands of page views. Don't ask me how- I'm just as surprised as you are!

My "buttons" blog is run through blogger and I use wordpress for the "secret" blog, so I'm quite familiar with both. I'm always looking for cool new things to try out, and I came across two blogs (neither on blogger) using Disqus for comments. I just had to know what this new thing was, so I checked it out and fell in LOVE with the concept. From their website, "[Disqus is] connecting websites and commenters across a thriving discussion community." Um, more fun places for me to be socially and virally connected? Yes please!

The story of "The Pickle girl" who loved her sammies

This is a story about me. I love sammies:

Prob about 2 times a week I get a sammy from across the street. I have two favorite places:
  • On Tuesdays I go to Subway (holla busybeeLauren). I get a 6" veggie on italian herbs and cheese with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, lots of pickles, a LITTLE bit of mayo and oil and oregano at Subway.
  • My other favorite sammy place is Genuardi's (supermarket). At Genuardi's I get a 1/2 sammy on ciabatta with american and provologne cheeses and lettuce, tomato LOTS of pickles, mayo, oil and oregano.
I have eaten this sammy for 100 years.

I've gone to sammy shop in Genuardi's since I was 16. If you can get past this very sad fact (b/c that means I've worked at Spring Dance Hot Tubs off and on for 9- almost 10 years), you will enjoy the following stories:

Irene is getting old:
Irene has worked at Genuardi's since I first started getting my delicious sammy there. She's old. And I think she's going crazy. Today she said "you know if you use your card, you can get a free sammy on your 8th visit" Yes, Irene, I've only done this SINCE I WAS 16. "Here, when the receipt prints, I'll show you how many you have towards a free sammy." She didn't have to show me- b/c the computer made a loud beeping sound announcing that I get my next sammy for free (Win!)

A few weeks ago I have a $1 off coupon for a sammy. The sammy costs $4.99 + Tax ($5.29 total). So it should have been $3.99 + tax. I wasn't paying attention, and when I looked at my receipt in the car, I realized she gave me $3.99 off my sammy and I paid $1.00+ tax. I robbed Genuardi's.

The pickle girl:
Last week, the sammy guy at Genuardi's told me he put 8 pickles on my sammy. "Is that enough?" he asked. "When you say "lots of pickles"- how many is that to you?" This is a new question for me. I've never had to answer it before. I'm not sure why after 9, almost 10, years, people are suddenly so interested in my cheese sammy w/ lots of pickles. So I said, "I don't know. I don't count.- I just want to taste pickle" (that's what she said)

Recently my buddies at Subway hired a new guy. Nick, the manager, was training him and when it was my turn in line Nick said, "New guy, this is Bekah. She's the one who likes a lot of pickles."

I am KNOWN by my sammy at both places, and I SWEAR they call me the "pickle girl" (that's what she said).

I hope you enjoyed today's story time. I decided last night to start a series called "The Funnyness of my life." Cuz sometimes funny things happen. I can't wait to share "The night of the never-ending beeps." You're gonna love it... Stay tuned...

All grown up

Dear Snails,

Today is your senior violin recital, and I can't believe that after all these years, it's finally here.

I made these cupcakes for you

It seems like just yesterday you were a little 4 year old, screeching to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" while standing on that mat where the masking tape made spots for your feet.

Your buck teeth were so cute, but your hair smelled a lil like cow's manure

Now you're a beautiful, grown woman who is an amazing, accomplished musician (and don't worry, my lips are sealed about your piano playing skills)

I'm so proud to be your older sister and to have the memories I have of your screechy violin playing. And I'm so blessed to be able to listen to you play your beautiful music tonight.

As I got older I noticed that mom would hang around the kitchen a lot when you & the other girls played violin or I would play the piano. And one time when I was home from college it hit me that that wasn't because there were a ton of dishes to do. She just loved to hear us play. She loved to hear you play.

Mom would be so proud of you...

I love you forever and ever and ever,
Bek

(just a lil reminder where your dress making skills come from)

Nurse Buttons

This is my favorite outfit I own:

and I feel like a WWII nurse.  Speaking of WWII, do you remember me going to San Diego and getting to see the Navy base where my cousband works? And how I said it was like being on a movie set? I have stories to share... and will soon! But first up will be my trip to Orange County to see Roomalufugus! Get ready....!

"Would you like me to bandage your head?"

Pssst

Do you like my hair today?

I dind't wash it. And you can barely tell. B/c of this:

This is the most amazing can in the universe. It turns gross greasy hair into even grosser, greasier hair because more product has been added but HIDES the fact that it is grosser and greaser. Ingenius!

PLUS the company that makes it is BRILLIANT because they charge $6.29 for the can, when CLEARLY it hasn't been updated since 1972 and probably is still from the same stock as their original run in 1972. So all in all, it probably cost them $.22 to manufacture, but it was all paid off 37 years ago- WIN all around!

Thanks to LA Nikki for introducing me to this magical product (and to her magical sis-in-law who introduced HER to the product and says every stylist in Hollywood carries it with them 24/7*)

Be happy that I blogged three times this week. This is record, y'all!
*it's possible i made that up a little... LA Nikki will have to let me know..

LA-fornication

I went to California recently. Did you know that? I wasn't exactly quiet about my excitement for the trip. I went many places but started in LA where David joined with his bff from college David Cecil. We stayed with, none-other-than LA Nikki.

I tweeted my entire trip to California. I know you loved it. I had the best time. I want to recap it all, but that might get a little long, so I'll start with LA:

1. We went to Hot Topic
We got in 1 hour early, hopped in Nikki's car and busted our butt over to Hollywood to Hot Topic. Cuz that's what you do when you find out a cast member from Twilight will be at the DVD release party 2 hours prior to the event. We made it just in time:

Twitter: update for all u sleepy east coasters. i'm in hot topic in hollywood.cuz thats what i do at 2am ET

us and Ashley Greene

us and Kynt from the Amazing Race

2. We went out for brunch
David starting liking LA because it wasn't all Hollywood- which he hated the evening before because of all the fake Jesus' and spidermen in the street.
Plus the bathroom at the brunch place was in the kitchen and it was creepy/gross/awesome!

Twitter: in bano in la in kitchen in rest. no lie.. might get killed by gang initiation. will twit pic this joint. awesome bathroom in kitchen

3. We went to Santa Monica and walked the Pier
And the minute we get to the end of the pier, some dude starts singing Jeff Buc
kley's version of Hallelujah and we almost threw seagulls at him.

4. Went to In-and-Out and died from it's deliciousness
No. I didn't eat meat. I got the grilled cheese off the secret menu!

Twitter: la update: going to in and out. need to see our sunday famous person.
who will it be? hoping for a paps swarm

Do you see what I see? The Hollywood sign!

5. I went to Sprinkles
And had a cupcake explosion of deliciousness in my mouth. True story, I did. I have dreamt of Sprinkles since the first moment I heard of it. And it did not disappoint. I got vanilla AND red velvet and my mouth is watering as I type this.

Twitter:
my dream come true... in line at sprinkles

6. We went to Beverly Hills (cuz Sprinkles is there plus I needed a few things from Louis Vitton)
David loved it so much and hopes to move right on Robertson Blvd

Have I mentioned we like Twilight? (Kitson had a twi-event the day before...)

7. Went to a 60's Dance party and used the photobooth
Sorry, I forgot to scan the photo strip. Boo

8. Went to the Farmer's Market in Hollywood
Twitter
:LA update: finally! cali weather! 70+ and beautiful. going to the farmers mrkt in hwood. want crepes

We ate crepes. They were so delicious I didn't even mind the piece of plastic in mine

9. We went to Griffith park
Here at the park we did not do anything that others might find 2nd-hand embarrassing. There is not video evidence of it nor is there any picture proof. We just enjoyed the California sunshine and discuss life and love like normal 25 & 26 year olds. We did not play with dolls.

10. We went to Pink Berry
And I died from its deliciousness. I got original with blueberries and strawberries.
And stole some of Nikki's mochi

Twitter: la update #375: driving w/ @itsshowtimenikki going to pink berry
& lovin' the CA sun. i am never coming home, ps

11. We taught Nikki how to smoke hookah
And also possibly almost went to an Al'Qaeda meeting. True story.
I'm not being racist because I love everyone, it's just that the first hookah bar we almost went to seemed to also be the meeting place of the Al'Qaeda.

they liked to pretend they hated Pocket Edward, but they loved him deep down

12. Went to Happy Hour on at a rooftop bar in downtown LA
and the hour turned into 5.5 hours. David & Cecil got to see friends from college, John & Shan and I got to see my non-friend, turned-friend from the vineyard, Charissa. It was SO great for us CMCers to be back together again, reliving our non-mems together (all 7 of us were attendees, 5 of us the same semester!)

Twitter: la update: @ a rooftop happy hour. on our 2nd plate of spicy tuna.serving wine like richie does. full glasses. heck yes. ps not coming home http://twitpic.com/2faew

Twitter: la update #386: still @ happy hr bar. waiting for @chaass to show so we can
relive our non-mems from 6 yrs ago

Twitter: la update #457: still at happy hr. 5 hrs later. n need of cheeseburgers now. i mean pizza or in and out. even tho i had for lunch

13. I left
Twitter: la update #576: no longer in LA. cried. miss nikki. at an ihop in carson CA. off to newport beach to make out w/ seth cohen

Thanks Nikki for letting me snuggle in your bed, driving us all over creation, welcoming me to your home with a special pillow, showing us your city, saying things like "THAT'S NORMAL," eating Mexican even though you hate LA-Mexican, taking off of work and being the best friend I've 'connected with over the internet' ever. XOXO

-PEACE-

Paper Route (again)

I mentioned Paper Route before because they're great and friends of David's since college. It's finally happening for them, and that makes me happy!

And we're finally gonna get to see them perform (we haven't seen them with THIS band.. the last time was their last show with their old band!) in a few weeks- yay!

I thought of this today b/c
#1: I wanted to post something and be a good buttons blogger 2 days in a row

#2: I saw a 'tweet' about their Imeem Page

#3: I have to keep all my "fans" satisfied since yesterday I broke a comment record and had TEN! (WHOO HOO- and also I realize HOW LAME that is compared to the record day of like 1200+ comments on the secret blog)

Go listen NOW. Download their music (legally) NOW. NOW, I say!

Neglecting my blog

Dear Blog,

It's time I write you another letter apologizing for neglecting you, yet again. It's hard when you are the "Hawt Post" on wordpress somedays for the secret blog to come back to the Buttons Blog where your only readers are Lula, Lauren, Nikki, Chan and sometimes Joe & Cecil.

(If you are a reader and I don't know about you, please leave me a comment so I know who you are. Then maybe I'll feel more guilty about neglecting this blog and actually write something of interest)

Stay tuned because I have a kick-ass LA/Cali wrap-up in the works. It was supposed to be up Monday, but sometimes when you take a red-eye you want to do nothing but sleep.

Hugs and loves, and enjoy this LA preview:

Oh look! 2 out of my 6 blog readers!
