My wedding promise

I remember so clearly, the moment we met.
A memory so vivid it feels like I’ve relived it a thousand times.
I saw you, and I froze. You were beautiful-
Who is this girl? Why did time just stop?
I didn’t understand then as I do right now, that this girl, this beautiful girl
would be the resolution of all my fruitless searches for love.
The perfect girl I hoped would someday step into my life
never stepped out of the dream, so God gave me one of His angels instead.
I couldn’t have dreamt you up.

I promise to love you- the whole you
your past, your future, everything you will become, and everything you’ve been
that has made you all the things you are.
I want your dreams to be my dreams- our dreams
I want to feel your smile in your happiness- hear your laughter
I will carry you through your pain and hold you through your fears,

So here I am once again, the boy, who seemingly standing outside of time
gazing into the face of the same beautiful girl,
feeling nothing but gratitude and wonder
for the providence that has brought us to this moment.
